puzzles and Legos

Henry's favorite things to do lately are puzzles and Legos.  I hear, "Do you want to play Legos with me?" at least 20 times a day around here!  He loves making vehicles of any kind and then each vehicle has to have a couple Lego guys in it, of course.  He is getting crazy good at puzzles too - seriously, he's better than I am!  He's now into 100 piece puzzles and will do them multiple times a day.  I think he just loves saying "one hundred piece puzzle" out loud :)

Last night when I was saying good-night to him, I said, "Henry, can you just stay 3-years-old forever and never get bigger?"  His response was, "But Mommy, I can't, I need to turn all the numbers."  Too cute.

random things I want to remember some day

So, I know everything goes in phases with little ones, right?  Well, here are the clothing phases of Henry's that I can remember so far.....in other words, these are the ONLY clothes that he has wanted to wear during these phases.  Some mornings I'd swear he's a teenage girl trying to decide what to wear instead of a 3-year-old boy!  I'd say this is maybe throughout the last 6 months, or so?
1. pajamas
2. shorts and short sleeve t-shirts (yep, all winter long)
3. jeans
He's been telling me lately that he doesn't have enough "cool" shirts now, ha!  I don't dare buy him any new clothes right now unless he approves of them because they'll just go to waste and he won't wear them.  Oh, Henry, you crack me up!

I took this picture one day after school.  That day when he went to school, he was wearing the gray long sleeve shirt underneath the blue short sleeve one, and yes, his jeans were on the correct way.  Well, when I picked him up, the pants were on backwards, the blue shirt was now underneath and the gray shirt was on top - backwards - and inside out.  Must have been one rough afternoon at preschool :)

Lydia's hair - check it out.  That hair is something else.  The scraggly pieces on the top and behind her right ear just make me smile.  Phil thinks we need to trim them, but I say "no way!"

Lydia's update:  She now has her 2 bottom teeth, and she loves playing with them with her lips.  Poor baby has her first cold right now.  I'm afraid I gave it to her, as I'm finally getting over mine after 2 weeks.  I had to bring up the swing from the basement so she can sleep in it in order to be more upright, as she's so congested.

St. Paddy's Day

We don't have a bit of Irish in us around this house, but that didn't stop us from celebrating!  Those silly leprechauns were making us laugh all day long around here :)  Henry was in awe that they were turning his milk, water, yogurt, ranch dressing, and other foods GREEN!  Gosh, it was cute to see his face when he thought the water coming out of the fridge door was coming out green.  We did a couple of St. Paddy's Day themed projects around here - the Fruit Loop rainbow one and we also made some green apple flavored play-doh.  Well, you can't celebrate St. Paddy's Day without your shamrock shake (or "clover-leaf blizzard" is what Henry called it when he couldn't think of the right name) from McDonald's, right?!

Spring Break

No Spring Break trips to Cancun for this little guy quite yet, ha!  We had a few fun outings this week without any school going on.

On Tuesday, we went bowling at the Brunswick Zone here in Blaine.  The development we live in, The Lakes, was hosting an event there for us.  Lydia even got in on the action, pushing her pretty pink ball down the lane!

Henry used the ramp one time and then had enough of that when he saw another little boy not using it.  He was pushing his bright green ball gently down the lane for a few frames and then wanted his ball to "go faster" like Mom & Dad's (and that same little boy next to us).  So, he was pretty much running up and chucking his ball down there (and giving me a slight heart attack, as well), but he had a BLAST doing it (and that's what it's all about, right?), coming back to us for a double-high-5 every time and asking, "Did I win?  I winned, I winned!"  He didn't want to leave after just one game.

Henry's never really been a fan of band-aids, in fact, I think he may have been a little scared of them, thinking they would hurt to put on?  Well, that sure has changed.  I cut my finger one day and needed to go upstairs to get a band-aid, which he helped me pick out, Cars!  I went off to Lydia's room to feed her and Henry was being awfully quiet in my bathroom.  He comes running into her room later, in tears, because he ran out of Cars band-aids and still had "4 more owies to make feel better."

Lydia made her first trip to Como Zoo this week.  On Thursday, it was sunny and in the 40s already in the morning, so I bundled her up, put her in the stroller like a big girl (no car seat), so she could get a full view of the animals.  She had to get her picture with the baby seal.....

.....just like Henry did when he was 7 months old!  He told me his favorite animal this time around was the gorilla.  He has a love/scared relationship with that gorilla.  He really, really wants to love him, but doesn't want to get all that close to him when we actually get up there to see him!

This morning, Henry and I went to Tots Yoga together at Blooma.  The other kids in class were named Beatrice, Betsy, and Sergio :)  Yes, the poor boy has to use my bright pink yoga mat.  He can do one heck of a down-dog yoga pose :)

5 months

Miss Lydia is 5 months old!  She's growing up way too fast :(  I LOVE little babies and I wish she could stay this age forever.  She's as sweet as can be :)  She's so content all the time, whether she's playing on the floor or sitting on your lap, she's game for whatever!  She loves that brother of hers - everything he does is funny to her, as he gets non-stop smiles and giggles out of her.  She doesn't really cry - it's more like she yells or squawks if she needs her presence known :)

She eats 5 times a day, wears size 2 diapers, and is in 6 month clothing.  Her sleeping has improved from last month - still taking 2-3 good naps a day and lately has been able to sleep 10 hours at night, then another few more hours after eating - thank you, Lydia!  She's exhausted by 6:30pm and is ready to wind down for the night.

That first tooth popped through yesterday (bottom right), yay!  Henry has been quite interested in the fact that she doesn't have teeth like he does and really wants to check out the inside of her mouth now to see what's going on in there!

weekend update

Let's hope this winter is winding down around here.  It was actually a "nice" weekend outside.  We've been able to get out and play for 3 days in a row, fabulous!  Henry got quite a few runs down the hill with his sled, but I was sinking in up to my thighs.  Man, we have A LOT of that white stuff out there!  Lydia is just hanging out, along for the ride, going with the flow per her usual :)

On Sunday, we went to the Minneapolis Institute of Art for their Family Day.  We haven't been there in about a year - it was time to make a trip back.  I think lots of families were looking for something to do that day, as it was slammin'!

We checked out all the projects they had for the kiddos around the museum - create your own sculpture, postcard, and portrait.  Here he's working on his postcard, which he chose to take home for himself rather than sending it to anybody, ha!

The theme for the day was Matisse inspired art.

Look at that concentration as he was working on his portrait :)
